The Jebel Hamri Expedition is a demanding single-day trek that links the historic village of Ain Al Sheria with Wadi Dahir, crossing the rugged ridgelines and dramatic escarpments of Fujairah’s Geotrek route. This trail offers participants a deep immersion into the mountain heritage of Taween and Sheria, while navigating across Jebel Hamri’s distinctive red-streaked limestone formations. With expansive views across Fujairah’s valleys and the coastal plains, this journey is both culturally rich and physically challenging.
Trail Details
The expedition begins at Ain Al Sheria, a settlement known for its terraced farming and freshwater springs that once sustained mountain life. From here, trekkers ascend steep paths carved into the slopes, with views back over Taween and the surrounding wadis. The climb gradually transitions into exposed ridgelines where the iconic red-tinged limestone of Jebel Hamri becomes visible.
The route follows sections of the established Geotrek trail, a cultural and geological path designed to showcase Fujairah’s mountain heritage. Along the way, hikers encounter remnants of stone houses, small falaj systems, and ancient pathways that once connected villages across the highlands. The climb is sustained and technical in places, demanding scrambling over scree and limestone ledges.
Reaching Jebel Hamri’s upper ridges, the trail reveals panoramic vistas of Fujairah’s coastline and the vast wadi networks stretching toward Ras Al Khaimah. The descent begins after the summit approach, navigating sharp drops, narrow shelves, and rugged switchbacks. Trekkers eventually enter Wadi Dahir, a wide valley with date palms and a seasonal watercourse, marking the conclusion of the expedition.
