This is your first step towards summiting the highest mountain in Oman: Jebel Shams, aka, the “Grand Canyon” of the Middle East. Take the leap to a trekking journey and overnight adventure that will take you to stunning heights and awe-inspiring vistas. With rugged limestone terrain, deep-diving canyons, and majestic peaks, Jebel Shams offers outdoor enthusiasts the perfect playground for both discovery and adventure.

Day 1: Balcony Trail (W6)

Begin your hiking adventure with the iconic Balcony Trail (W6), renowned for its awe-inspiring views of the rugged terrain and deep canyons. As you set off on the trail, you’ll be greeted by the mighty mountain winds and the occasional bird swooping about in the distance.

The trail winds its way along the edge of the canyon, offering panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and gorges. Along the way, you’ll encounter rocky outcrops, towering cliffs, and fascinating rock formations, providing ample opportunities for photography and exploration.

As you hike deeper into the canyon, you’ll reach the famous Balcony viewpoint, a natural rock ledge that offers unparalleled views of the canyon floor below. Take a moment to pause and soak in the breathtaking scenery before continuing your journey. Our end point will be the famous pool that lies under the cavern formation, perfect for silhoutte photos.

After a day of exhilarating hiking, we will set camp at a scenic spot near the trail, where you can enjoy our campside dinner under the stars and share stories around the campfire with your fellow adventurers.

Day 2: Summit Trek (W4)

Rise early to catch the sunrise over the rugged peaks of Jebel Shams as you prepare for the summit trek (W4). The trail begins with a steep ascent, leading you through rocky terrain and lush mountain vegetation.

As you climb higher, the air becomes thinner, and the landscape transforms into a rugged moonscape of jagged rocks and craggy peaks. Along the way, keep an eye out for native wildlife, including mountain goats and elusive birds of prey such as the Egyptian Vulture.

After several hours of challenging trekking, we will FINALLY reach the summit of Jebel Shams, rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and deep canyons stretching as far as the eye can see. Take a moment to catch your breath and celebrate your achievement before beginning the descent back to base camp.

With its stunning scenery, challenging terrain, and sense of adventure, Jebel Shams is truly a hiker’s paradise and a must-visit destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
